A new website for Volumio

Hi folks!

Do you like what you see?

For those of you lurking on the forum in the last times, you know that a lot is going on on the development side of thigs. We released since a month the Release Candidate of Volumio2, and we’ve created a solid updater architecture and server API. More info on those will come with future articles.

What you didn’t knew indeed, is that in parallel we were also working on a new website and shop. The main goal of this  style and communication overhaul is to offer a clearer idea of what
Volumio is, especially for newcomers. At the same time we wanted also to provide a smoother retrieval of informations for current users. On top of that, we updated the download section to use our Updater API, in order to avoid to manually update the page code when a new version is released.

Speaking of versions, we’re currently building a nightly-build directory, where the most “edgy” users will be able to donwload the very latest code, which is still on development process and therefore not released.

On a more technical side, this was a good occasion to revamp some server-side tweaks we use for Volumio’s website: we upgraded our beloved nginx deployment to latest stable version and embrace HTTP2 which should bring a more secure encryption over https and a faster server response time.

Last but not least, Volumio has now a shop! You can find out why we did that in this comprehensive explanation, and we’ll cover this choice extensively in a shortcoming post.

Let us know what you think of the new website in the comments below, and don’t forget to subscribe to our new newsletter in the website footer!

About Michelangelo Guarise

Passionate. Heretical. Deeply in love with Technology and Music. I live in Florence, Italy where I teach Interaction Design and Marketing. I'm Volumio's founder and CEO, and I love every second of this great adventure. My audio gear is some strange mix of valve and digital amplifiers, all self built in some cold winter sleepless nights. And I just can't turn that volume knob down.
