Volumio began as an open-source project by Michelangelo Guarise: software that turns a small, inexpensive computer into a music player good enough for high-quality sound. People around the world adopted it, improved it and built their own players around it.
In 2020 the project became a company that engineers the operating system, the hardware and the design together. Volumio software now runs on more than 800,000 active devices worldwide and inside the products of more than 30 hardware brands, and its community has more than 32,000 members.
Volumio's own streamers, DACs and accessories are designed in Florence, Italy, and assembled there by hand by the team that writes their software. They have won three EISA Awards and an iF Design Award. CORRD, a Volumio spin-off, brings AI-assisted music discovery to the streaming services people already use.
